HBO Max is an online video streaming platform launched in May 2020 by WarnerMedia Entertainment, a division of AT&T. The new streaming service was offered to new subscribers. It was also offered for free to current subscribers of the HBO cable network and the HBO Now streaming platform.
At launch, HBO Max offered access to the existing library of HBO content along with movie and TV content from other WarnerMedia properties. High-profile offerings included the Harry Potter film franchise, the DC Comics Universe movies, all episodes of the 90s sitcom Friends, and TV content from cable networks including TBS, TNT, TruTV, CNN, Cartoon Network, The CW, and Turner Classic Movies.
HBO Max is viewable on computers and mobile devices. It is also viewable on some smart TVs and TVs equipped with Apple TV or Chromecast. However, at launch, the service could not be viewed through Roku or Amazon Fire TV set-top boxes.
