Boardwalk Empire is a historical drama television series set in the 1920s prohibition era of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The series stars Steve Buscemi as Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, a corrupt politician and treasurer of Atlantic City who takes advantage of illegal activities such as bootlegging and gambling. The show also stars Michael Pitt as James "Jimmy" Darmody, a former World War I soldier and protege of Nucky. Jimmy becomes involved in the illegal bootlegging business and eventually becomes a rival to Nucky. Kelly Macdonald plays Margaret Schroeder, an abused housewife who becomes involved with Nucky and eventually becomes his mistress.
