Mythbusters is a show that dispels the idea that science is always boring. The show takes a unique approach to testing popular urban legends and reveals whether they are possible or not. Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage host the show and add their expertise as special effects professionals to create scenarios which put science to the test. Each episode begins with a theme. For example, one episode addressed different storm chasing myths while another tested myths related to duct tape. Savage and Hyneman introduce the subject of the day and begin to construct intricate devices that will be used in experimentation for the day's theme. There are normally two tests performed. The first is a trial that is made to carry out the myth and uncover whether or not there is a plausible way to have it confirmed. If at first the test fails, each man tweaks their experiment and alter the parameters of the test to try for s better outcome. The duo goes to great lengths to assure safety of all individuals and never uses animals in any experiment. While the main mythbusters Adam and Jamie conduct their experiment, a subteam including Kari Byron, Tory Bellici, and Grant Imahara conduct a few minor experiments as well. They interact in a playful and amusing way to uncover things like how hard it is to find a needle in a haystack, if water dripping on the forehead can drive a person crazy, and other silly questions. At the conclusion of every show, the myths are "Busted", "Confirmed", or marked "Plausible". A confirmation means that the myth was able to be recreated with an outcome that matched a described situation. A busted myth means that the myth could not be copied to obtain a described outcome from a situation with certain parameters. In this context, the myth's validity is not likely. A plausible myth means that results were able to be produced with the extension of certain parameters still within reasonable possibility. Most times, this means that the myth is probably unlikely to occur, but still possible. As stated before, Mythbusters is highly concerned with safety. At the shows introduction, it is clearly stated that none of the experiments conducted on the show should ever be recreated at home. The mythbusters are professionals who understand how and have the proper equipment to conduct their tests in complete safety. Even though the show seems to get crazy at times, it is all based on real scientific premises and makes learning more interesting and fun.
