The 1800s in the western United States was a time of great turmoil and great men. These were people who lived off the land, created towns, and performed great deeds. The people who inhabited these towns and these times were as legendary and as wild as the country they lived in. The Wild West is a television documentary series depicting the true stories of the men and women who became mythic heroes and controversial outlaws. These characters were not simply created from the pages of a novel, they were real people who created the checkered American west's history. With interviews of historians and film makers who have researched and became expert on these men and women's lives and families, the viewer learns not only of the exploits of these people, but also who they really were as people. Through the diaries of the men that were there and the biographers who followed them around, these are the real stories of the real people whose names are synonymous with the old west. From the famous Billy the Kid to the infamous General Custer, the true tales might be more interesting than the tales that were flashed up on the silver screen.
