In 1995 five year old Jesse Wells disappeared whilst playing with friends including older brother Mark. Twenty years later one of those friends, policeman Danny is investigating a woman's murder and finds Jesse's DNA at the crime scene. He informs Mark, now a lawyer and the other two friends, doctor Pru and Slade, who runs a homeless shelter. Paedophile Jakob Marosi had admitted to killing Jesse and sticks to his story when Mark visits him in prison. Slade encounters a young girl, Gemma Morgan, who has been missing for five years and claims to have been held with other children, her presence disturbing Slade's colleague Brit. Afterwards Slade goes to a meeting in a hotel room whilst Danny pursues the murder suspect who may or may not be Jesse.
