The Case Study of Vanitas is a 2021 anime series from Tokyo MX. Directed by Tomoyuki Itamura and produced by Studio Bones, the show is an adaptation of a manga series written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. Set in 19th century Paris, The Case Study of Vanitas follows the adventures of a young vampire known as Noé Archiviste. Despite being a vampire, Noé is unlike many others of his kind, as he was born with the ability to read objects and memories. He has come to Paris to find his Grimoire, the magical book that holds all of his knowledge and powers. One day, while wandering the streets of Paris, Noé meets a mysterious, charismatic vampire named Vanitas. Vanitas is a man with a mission, and he claims to have the power to cure vampires of their curse. He carries with him a magical book called the Book of Vanitas, which he claims is the key to curing vampirism. Despite being skeptical, Noé agrees to help Vanitas on his mission. Along the way, they encounter many other vampires, including the wealthy and powerful members of the aristocracy. They also encounter other powerful beings, such as werewolves and demons. The Case Study of Vanitas is not just a story about vampires and their quests for power and immortality. It is also a story about friendship, loyalty, and the search for meaning and purpose in life. Noé and Vanitas have a complicated relationship, with plenty of teasing and bickering, but they ultimately come to respect and rely on each other. The show features an all-star cast of voice actors, including Kaito Ishikawa as Noé Archiviste, Natsuki Hanae as Vanitas, and Inori Minase as Jeanne, a young woman who becomes entangled in their adventures. Ishikawa and Hanae are both well-known for their work in popular anime series such as Haikyu!! and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, respectively. The animation in The Case Study of Vanitas is top-notch, with beautiful backgrounds and character designs. The show's action scenes are well-animated and exciting, and the character interactions are always engaging. The show's soundtrack is also worth mentioning, featuring a mix of classical and modern music that perfectly complements the show's Victorian setting. Fans of the manga series will be pleased to know that the anime adaptation stays faithful to the source material. The show covers the first six volumes of the manga, and while it does take some liberties with the pacing and structure, it does a good job of capturing the spirit of the original story. Overall, The Case Study of Vanitas is a must-watch for fans of vampire stories, action-adventure anime, and beautiful animation. Its mix of humor, drama, and fantasy elements make for an engaging and entertaining viewing experience. With its compelling characters, intriguing plot, and stunning visuals, The Case Study of Vanitas is sure to become a fan favorite among anime lovers.
