Tacoma FD is a comedy series that premiered on truTV in 2019. The show stars Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme, who also co-created the series, and Eugene Cordero. Heffernan and Lemme are both veterans of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, which is well-known for their films Super Troopers and Club Dread. The show takes place in the titular city of Tacoma, Washington, where the firefighters of a local firehouse spend their days responding to emergencies and trying to pass the time when there's nothing to do. In many ways, Tacoma FD is a workplace comedy, with much of the humor coming from the interactions between the firefighters and their offbeat colleagues. Heffernan and Lemme play Chief Terry McConky and Captain Eddie Penisi, respectively. McConky is the straight-laced leader of the firehouse, who takes his job seriously and expects his subordinates to do the same. Penisi, on the other hand, is a bit of a goofball, always looking for ways to make the job more exciting and indulging his penchant for pranks and practical jokes. Cordero plays Andy Myawani, a firefighter who is constantly trying to prove himself to his colleagues despite being green on the job. Andy is the son of the retired fire chief, which puts him in a precarious position with his coworkers. Other members of the firehouse include Ike Crystal (played by Marcus Henderson), an overweight firefighter who is constantly eating; Granny Smith (played by Gabriel Hogan), a tough-as-nails woman who can hold her own with the guys; and Lucy McConky (played by Hassie Harrison), Terry's daughter who works at a nearby bar and sometimes hangs out at the firehouse. One of the unique aspects of Tacoma FD is the fact that the firefighters are presented as being somewhat inept at their jobs. While they certainly care about the people they are trying to help, they often find themselves in ridiculous situations due to their own incompetence. This leads to some hilarious moments throughout the series. In addition to the workplace comedy aspects, Tacoma FD also features some slapstick humor, as well as some satire of the traditional firefighter hero trope. For example, the firefighters are shown wasting time playing games or taking naps, rather than constantly being out on emergency calls. Overall, Tacoma FD is a fun and lighthearted comedy series that will definitely appeal to fans of Broken Lizard and their brand of humor. While it may not be for everyone, those who enjoy workplace comedies with a bit of an absurdist twist will likely find a lot to like about this show.
