Still the King is an American television sitcom that aired on CMT from 2016 to 2017. The show stars Billy Ray Cyrus as Vernon Brownmule, a washed-up country singer and womanizer who finds out he has a daughter he never knew about. Lacey Chabert plays Charlotte, Vernon's daughter, who shows up on his doorstep with her own unexpected bundle of joy. Leslie David Baker plays Ronnie, Vernon's loyal friend and bandmate, who helps him navigate life as a father. Kevin Farley plays Walt, the owner of the local hardware store and Vernon's chief nemesis. Travis Nicholson and Jon Sewell also star as Bo and Luke, Vernon's ornery and mischievous stepsons. The show is set in Hahira, Georgia, where Vernon is trying to make a comeback but is constantly thwarted by his bad behavior and past mistakes. He's a charismatic guy, but he's also self-destructive, which makes for some funny and sometimes cringe-worthy moments. Still the King tackles some serious issues, but mostly it's a lighthearted comedy that pokes fun at country music culture and small-town life. Despite Vernon's flaws, he's fiercely protective of his daughter and grandson, and he's determined to be a better father than he ever was a musician. Charlotte is skeptical at first, but she soon realizes that Vernon has a good heart, and they start to bond over their shared love of music. Ronnie is the voice of reason in their group, and he's always there to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. Meanwhile, Walt is constantly trying to sabotage Vernon's career and steal his woman (played by Joey Lauren Adams), leading to some hilarious and over-the-top antics. One of the standout features of Still the King is its eclectic cast of characters. Bo and Luke are the perfect foil for Vernon, always getting into trouble and causing chaos wherever they go. There's also an assortment of colorful locals, including a preacher with a secret past, a biker gang with a heart of gold, and a psychic who tries to help Vernon see the error of his ways. The show is full of quirky moments and unexpected twists that keep the audience guessing. In addition to its comedic elements, Still the King also touches on some serious themes. Vernon struggles with addiction and tries to make amends for the mistakes of his past. Charlotte deals with the challenges of being a single parent and trying to find her place in the world. The show also explores issues of race and class, as Vernon tries to navigate cultural differences and overcome his own biases. Overall, Still the King is a fun and entertaining show that offers a unique spin on the traditional sitcom. Billy Ray Cyrus delivers a strong performance as Vernon, and the supporting cast is equally impressive. The show blends humor and heart in a way that will keep viewers coming back for more. Whether you're a fan of country music or just looking for a good laugh, Still the King is definitely worth checking out.
