Professor T is a Belgian crime drama series centered around the titular character of Jasper Teerlinck, a brilliant criminologist and professor at the university of Antwerp, better known by his students and colleagues as Professor T. Jasper is an eccentric and somewhat misanthropic character, with a sharp tongue and a tendency to offend those around him, but he is also a genius with an exceptional ability to solve complex cases. Despite his disdain for humanity, Jasper becomes involved in a number of criminal investigations as a consultant to the police, thanks largely to his former student and now police inspector Annelies Donckers, who enlists him to help solve a series of seemingly impossible cases. The show's first episode opens with the gruesome murder of a prominent businessman, which quickly becomes the main focus of the series. Jasper's unique approach to investigating the crime, which includes several personal visits to the victim's family, unearths a trail leading to a complex web of lies and deceit, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Despite Jasper's disdain for human interaction, he becomes a mentor to a new cohort of students, including Annelies and the timid but brilliant Daan De Winter. Over time, the characters develop a complex and interesting dynamic, with Professor T becoming something of a father figure to his students while also struggling with his own personal demons. While the overarching mystery of the series is captivating, what makes Professor T truly stand out is its characters. Koen De Bouw's performance as Jasper is both amusing and chilling, with his sharp tongue and cold demeanor often leaving those around him uncomfortable and mistrusting. Ella Leyers brings a much-needed brightness to the series as Annelies, and her character's determination to prove herself to Jasper makes for some of the show's most compelling moments. The series also benefits from its attention to detail, with careful consideration given to the unique criminology techniques employed by Professor T that separate him from his colleagues. Jasper's obsession with order and cleanliness is also given ample airtime, and the recurring motif of his germaphobia and OCD tendencies is a clever nod to his analytical nature. The show's setting in Antwerp is also utilized to great effect, with stunning shots of the city serving as a backdrop to the series' numerous action scenes. The dark and rainy streets of Antwerp serve to emphasize the sense of criminality and danger that pervades the show, while also adding a sense of place to the proceedings. Overall, Professor T is a brilliantly executed crime drama that manages to be both tense and entertaining, while also featuring characters that are complex and engaging. Koen De Bouw's performance as Jasper is a standout, with his interpretation of the character helping to make Professor T one of the most memorable crime dramas in recent years. Whether you're a fan of the genre or just looking for a great drama series, Professor T is definitely worth your time.
