Playful Kiss is a 16-episode romantic comedy series that aired in Korea in 2010. It's based on a Japanese manga called Itazura Na Kiss and stars Kim Hyun-joong as Baek Seung-jo, a cool and aloof high school student, and Jung So-min as Oh Ha-ni, a clumsy and optimistic girl who has had a crush on him for years. The story starts with Oh Ha-ni getting a low score on her college entrance exams and finding out that Baek Seung-jo got a perfect score. She decides to confess her feelings to him, but he coldly rejects her and starts mocking her for her lack of intelligence. However, fate brings them together when an earthquake destroys Ha-ni's house and they end up living under the same roof. As Ha-ni tries to win Seung-jo's heart, she faces competition from his intelligent and beautiful childhood friend, Yoon He-ra, played by Yoon Seung-ah, who also has feelings for him. Meanwhile, Seung-jo's older brother, Baek Eun-jo, played by Lee Tae-sung, starts developing feelings for Ha-ni and becomes her ally in her quest to win Seung-jo over. The show follows the ups and downs of Ha-ni's pursuit of Seung-jo, as she navigates his complicated personality and deals with his occasional cruelty towards her. Along the way, she also grows as a person, learns to value herself more, and makes new friends in her school's social outcasts club, where she finds a sense of belonging and support. One of the show's strengths is its charming and endearing characters, who are brought to life by a talented cast. Kim Hyun-joong shines as the enigmatic and complex Seung-jo, who slowly opens up to Ha-ni as he discovers his own feelings for her. Jung So-min is a delight as the bubbly and persistent Ha-ni, who brings out the best in people with her warmth and sincerity. Lee Tae-sung is also excellent as the charismatic and caring Eun-jo, who serves as a counterpoint to Seung-jo's coldness and provides a romantic alternative for Ha-ni. Yoon Seung-ah is convincing as the intelligent and ambitious He-ra, whose rivalry with Ha-ni adds to the romantic tension of the show. The show's humor and heartwarming moments make it a delightful watch, as it tackles themes such as friendship, family, and self-discovery. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and their interactions are often funny, sweet, or poignant. The show's soundtrack is also noteworthy, featuring catchy pop songs and instrumental pieces that enhance the mood and emotions of each scene. The opening theme, "Kiss Kiss" by Kim Hyun-joong, is a catchy and upbeat tune that perfectly captures the playful and romantic tone of the show. Overall, Playful Kiss is a charming and entertaining romantic comedy that will make viewers laugh, cry, and root for the lovable characters. It's a classic story of opposites attracting, with a fresh twist and a heartwarming message about the power of love to overcome obstacles and transform people's lives.
