Nana is a Japanese anime series created by MADHOUSE and based on the manga series of the same name by Ai Yazawa. It aired on NTV from April 5, 2006, to March 28, 2007, and ran for 47 episodes. The show follows the story of two young women, both named Nana, who meet on a train to Tokyo and become roommates while pursuing their dreams. Nana Komatsu, also known as Hachi, is a naive and clumsy girl from the countryside who moves to Tokyo to be with her boyfriend. Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is a punk rock singer and songwriter who is trying to make it big in the music industry. Despite their differences, the two Nanas become fast friends and support each other through their respective struggles. Hachi's relationship with her boyfriend is complicated by his infidelity, while Nana is haunted by the tragic breakup of her former band and the loss of her boyfriend, who left to become a successful musician without her. Throughout the series, the two women experience both the highs and lows of life in Tokyo, navigating their way through love and heartbreak, friendship and betrayal, success and failure. They meet a colorful cast of characters, including Hachi's fellow trainee at her office job, Shinichi, and Nana's bandmates, Nobuo, Yasu, and Ren. The show features beautiful animation and a gripping storyline that keeps viewers engaged from beginning to end. The music, which is a central theme of the show, is outstanding, with a blend of rock, punk, and pop that perfectly captures the vibe of the characters and the city they inhabit. The voice acting is also excellent, with Romi Park delivering a standout performance as Nana Osaki. Her portrayal of the character's passion and vulnerability is both nuanced and powerful. Kaori, who voices Hachi, also does a fantastic job of bringing the character's charm and naivete to life. The English dub, which features the talents of Canadian voice actor Brian Drummond, is equally impressive. Drummond delivers a memorable performance as the enigmatic Ren, bringing depth and complexity to the character. Overall, Nana is a must-watch for fans of anime and music alike. Its compelling storyline, gorgeous animation, and incredible soundtrack make it a true masterpiece of the genre.
