Minoriteam is a parody animated show on Adult Swim starring Dana Snyder that aired from 2005-2006. The show is a satirical take on superhero teams in American culture, featuring a team of five superheroes each representing a different minority group. The superheroes are intentionally caricatured as stereotypes of their respective groups. The show centers around a team of crime fighters, The Minoriteam, which is made up of five minority superheroes. These superheroes are Ace, a white man who wears a mask to impersonate hispanic; El Jefe, a stereotypical angry Mexican-American; Fasto, an Asian-American who is a workaholic and enjoys working with numbers; Jewcano, who is Jewish and shoots fire; and Non-Stop, who is African American and runs at superhuman speed. The team of superheroes is shown to have been formed when Fasto, the only member of the team who is not a caricature, is given a grant to form a superhero team that represents minorities. However, instead of creating something that provided group representation for individuals, Fasto decides to create caricatures of each group that he believes would be fun and make the team more memorable. The team is headquartered in a mobile fortress that can transform into any type of vehicle, and they protect the world from evil supervillains who are trying to take over the world. Each episode features a new villain, usually a parody of a real-life supervillain or an idea taken to an absurd extreme. The show is full of sophisticated humor that pokes fun at stereotypes while also tackling issues of race, gender, and sexuality. It also features a diverse cast of characters, including a bisexual supervillain named Dr. Wang and his evil henchwoman, a black woman named Hula Hoop. The show is clearly not meant to be taken seriously, with the colors being exaggerated and the villains being outlandish copies of real-life villains. The style of the show is reminiscent of 1960s superhero cartoons, down to the backgrounds and voice acting. The show also satirizes the idea of the "token" minority character and instead turns it into an entire team, creating a humorous commentary on the lack of diversity in traditional American superhero teams. Despite its satirical approach, the show does attempt to address some deeper issues, such as immigration policy and cultural appropriation. One episode features a villain who steals cultural artifacts from around the world and uses them to create a giant robot, while another episode features a villain who is trying to deport all the minority superheroes back to their home countries. The show also occasionally breaks the fourth wall, making fun of its own medium and acknowledging its own absurdity. In summary, Minoriteam is a satirical animated series that offers a humorous critique of traditional American superhero teams while also tackling issues of race, gender, and sexuality. It is not meant to be taken seriously and uses exaggerated stereotypes and outlandish villains to make its point. It is a playful, irreverent take on serious issues.
