In the year 2012, ABC premiered a sitcom titled "Malibu Country" which starred Reba McEntire, the country music superstar. The show was created by Kevin Abbott and was produced by his own company, Kevin & Rebecca Productions alongside ABC Studios. The show revolves around the character of Reba Gallagher, played by McEntire, who is a country singer-songwriter living in Nashville, Tennessee. Reba discovers that her husband, Bobby Gallagher, has been cheating on her with both of their neighbors. As a result, Reba files for divorce and seeks to continue her singing career. However, she discovers that Bobby, who was also her manager, has squandered all her earnings. Reba gets a chance to move her family to Malibu, California, where her mother Lillie Mae, played by Lily Tomlin, has a house. She must adapt to living in a new place with her children, Cash and June, played by Justin Prentice and Juliette Angelo, respectively. Reba and her children move in with her mother, who is an alcoholic and a pot smoker. Lillie Mae also has a questionable past that comes back to haunt her in certain episodes. Nevertheless, she loves her family and tries to help them in any way she can. She has a neighbor, Kim Sallinger, played by Sara Rue, who is a bit of a busybody and often makes unwanted visits. Reba also has a new neighbor, Geoffrey, played by Jai Rodriguez. Geoffrey is a gay real estate agent who is professionally successful but is unlucky when it comes to his love life. He becomes Reba's friend and confidant, and the two share a great bond throughout the show. Additionally, Reba's other neighbor is the ambitious and successful music producer, Mr. Bata, played by Jeffrey Nordling. He offers Reba a chance to record new music, which she gladly accepts, and they become professional partners. The show manages to balance the challenges of living in a new place, making new friends and career goals all at once. Reba juggles being a mother to her two children, taking care of her mother, and trying to restart her music career. She also finds herself at the center of various community activities in Malibu, such as the annual fashion show, which provides many comic and not-so-comic moments. In conclusion, Malibu Country is a light-hearted show that appeals to all ages. It highlights the importance of family, friends, and community while simultaneously showcasing the struggles of restarting one's career. The chemistry between the lead cast is perfect, and the supporting cast delivers top-notch performances. Malibu Country ran for one season on ABC, consisting of 18 episodes, before being canceled in May 2013 due to low viewership. However, the show still manages to leave a lasting positive impression on its viewers who have continued to watch it on streaming platforms.
