Kath and Kim is a American television comedy series that aired on NBC from 2008-2009. It is a remake of an Australian television series of the same name which was also very popular in Australia. The show focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between a mother and daughter, Kath and Kim. Kath Day-Knight (Molly Shannon) is a middle-aged woman who is trying to be young and hip to stay connected to her daughter, Kim (Selma Blair). She is often seen wearing tight clothes, heavy make-up, and spray tans. She is also obsessed with her physical appearance, and is constantly trying out new diets and workout routines. Kim Day-Craig (Selma Blair) is a ditzy and lazy young woman who is still living at home with her mother. She is often seen wearing skimpy outfits, and is constantly on the lookout for the next big thing to come into her life. She works at a fast-food restaurant, and constantly dreams of becoming a famous celebrity. The show starts off with Kim moving back in with Kath after her marriage falls apart. Kath is prone to giving Kim unsolicited advice, and Kim tolerates it only because she wants to stay close to her mother's money. The show explores their everyday lives, their often-failed attempts at dating, and their constant bickering. Kath's second marriage to her husband Phil Knight (John Michael Higgins) is also a major part of the show. Phil is highly self-absorbed and obsessed with his own health, much to the inconvenience of his wife and daughter. He is also a bit dim-witted, and often misunderstands what is going on around him. The show is set in a fictitious town in Florida, and much of the humor comes from the wacky characters that surround Kath and Kim. Their neighbors include two gay men, a couple who constantly fight, and a group of senior citizens who are always up to no good. The show's humor is often slapstick, relying on awkward situations and exaggerated stereotypes. It can be crude and sometimes offensive, but it is also very irreverent and features a lot of physical comedy. The cast is very talented, and they do a great job of making even the most ridiculous situations seem believable. Kath and Kim is a fun and humorous show that is perfect for anyone who loves over-the-top comedy. It explores the complexities of family relationships, the absurdities of everyday life, and the lengths we go to in order to fit in with those around us. The show was well-received by audiences during its short run, and it remains a cult classic to this day.
