The show takes place in a small town called Ladner, in Oregon, where Buddy/Jonathan is welcomed with open arms by the congregation. However, his plans are always thwarted by Buddy/Jonathan's quick thinking. Russell Kerry, played by Mike Kosinski, is another member of the church council. However, he is also the town's mayor and is always looking for ways to expand the town's business opportunities. Alexa Cummings, played by Mircea Monroe, is a successful businesswoman who has a complicated past with Buddy. She is also a member of the church and is constantly trying to get closer to Buddy/Jonathan to find out what he is hiding. Dora, played by Sara Rue, is the owner of the local bar where Buddy/Jonathan frequents. She is also a close friend of his and is always there to support him when he needs it. Throughout the series, Buddy/Jonathan navigates the complexities of living a double life. He struggles with trying to keep his past a secret while trying to lead a congregation. He also deals with his growing feelings for LeeAnne, who is completely oblivious to his true identity. The show is a mix of comedy and drama, as it deals with serious issues such as addiction, identity, and religion, while also providing laugh-out-loud moments. The characters are well-developed, and the acting is superb. The show has an excellent ensemble cast, and each actor brings something unique to their character.
