I Hear Your Voice is a South Korean drama that aired in 2013. The show tells the story of Park Soo-ha, a high school student who possesses the ability to hear people's thoughts when he looks into their eyes. The ability is the result of an accident that occurred when he was a child and witnessed the murder of his father. The killer attempted to kill Park Soo-ha as well, but in the process, a random passerby saved his life, and since then, he has been able to read people's minds. Park Soo-ha is played by Lee Jong-suk and is the show's main protagonist. He uses his power to help people, especially those who have suffered injustices. He comes across Jang Hye-sung (played by Lee Bo-young), a public defender who defends the poor and oppressed. Hye-sung, who had been an eyewitness to a murder case 10 years ago, cross-examines Soo-ha, who has come to testify based on what he heard from the victim's thoughts. The two, despite their initial friction towards each other, become friends, and Park Soo-ha begins to develop feelings for her. The show addresses the theme of the legal system and its shortcomings in ensuring that the innocent are not punished while the guilty are brought to justice. Hye-sung and Soo-ha, along with Cha Gwan-woo (played by Yoon Sang-hyeon), a public prosecutor, work together to ensure that justice is served. They are pitted against Min Joon-gook (played by Jung Woong-in), a psychopath who had killed Hye-sung's mother and tries to kill her ten years later. He is also obsessed with killing Park Soo-ha, who had testified against him in court. The show also delves into the theme of forgiveness, particularly between Park Soo-ha and Min Joon-gook. As opposed to the typical revenge storyline seen in dramas where the protagonist takes revenge on the antagonist, Park Soo-ha shows empathy and forgiveness towards the killer. Despite all the pain and anger he had gone through in seeing his father's murder, he is willing to forgive and understand why Joon-gook became a killer. Another central theme of the show is love. The relationship between Park Soo-ha and Jang Hye-sung develops throughout the series. The show portrays love in various forms, from unrequited love, platonic love, to romantic love. The characters' relationships are complicated, and there are several love triangles, making for a captivating and engaging storyline. The cast members deliver fantastic performances. Lee Jong-suk, in particular, shines in his role as Park Soo-ha. He captures the character's naivety, empathy, and vulnerability perfectly, making him the standout character of the show. Lee Bo-young also delivers an excellent performance as Jang Hye-sung. Her portrayal of a tough and tenacious public defender who fights for the oppressed is on point. The production value of the show is also exceptional, with the cinematography capturing the picturesque scenery in South Korea. The music score is equally as impressive, with a soundtrack that captures the mood of each scene perfectly. Overall, I Hear Your Voice is an engaging and gripping legal thriller that also explores themes of love, forgiveness, and justice. With an excellent cast, compelling storyline, and stellar production value, the show is one that will have you hooked from the first episode till the end.
