Henneko: Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat is a Japanese anime television series produced by J.C.Staff and directed by Youhei Suzuki. The show premiered in Japan on April 13, 2013, and it consists of 12 episodes. The Anime Network, a North American online streaming service, picked up the show and began simulcasting it in the United States shortly after the Japanese premiere. The show tells the story of Youto Yokodera, a high school boy who has an unusual problem. Despite being a perverted teenager, nobody believes him when he admits to his true desires. He is tired of not being taken seriously, so he decides to make a wish to a mystical statue known as the Stony Cat. The wish is to be able to express his true desires without any shame or embarrassment. However, he discovers that the consequences of his wish are not what he expected, as he loses his outward ability to lie or conceal his true emotions in any way. As the story progresses, Youto begins to regret his wish. He meets Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi, a quiet girl who is not able to express her feelings. She is believed to have the opposite problem to Youto, as she always wears a face that displays no emotion. Tsukiko turns to the Stony Cat and makes a wish to be able to express herself more clearly. The Stony Cat grants her wish, but like Youto, she discovers there are unintended consequences as things quickly spiral out of control. The two are now tied together by their mistakes, and they must work together to undo what has been done. They are joined by other characters, including Azuki Azusa, Youto's classmate, who has a crush on him but cannot bring herself to admit it. Another student, Ponta, has a crush on Tsukiko, and a love triangle begins to form. Throughout the series, Youto and Tsukiko's struggles to reverse their wishes present both comedic and dramatic moments. One moment they are fighting or teasing each other, and the next moment they are sharing a touching moment as they try to help each other. The show presents a theme of accepting oneself, as well as a commentary on how one's desires are influenced by societal norms and expectations. The characters must deal with their hidden feelings and impulses, which are in contrast to how they wish to be perceived by others. The animation is colorful and vivid, with a lot of attention given to character details and facial expressions. The soundtrack is also well-crafted and sets an appropriate mood for the scenes. Overall, Henneko: Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat is an entertaining anime with a unique premise. It is a blend of comedy, romance, and drama that explores relatable themes while delivering an engaging story. The characters are charming, and their chemistry is delightful to watch. If you are a fan of romantic comedies or light-hearted anime, Henneko is definitely worth checking out.
