Doraemon is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio. The series premiered on TV Asahi on April 15, 2005, and has been on the air for over 15 years with more than 750 episodes. The show centers around a robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to help a young boy named Nobita Nobi. Set in a fictional suburb of Tokyo, Doraemon begins with Nobita struggling in school, often getting into trouble with his teachers and classmates. He also faces problems at home, where his strict mom and mischievous younger sister give him a hard time. The cast of Doraemon includes Wasabi Mizuta as Doraemon; Megumi Ohara as Nobita; Yumi Kakazu as Shizuka, Nobita's best friend and love interest; Tomokazu Seki as Suneo, Nobita`s classmate and snobbish rival; and Subaru Kimura as Gian, Nobita's bully and fearsome enemy, but also his closest friend. Doraemon has been incredibly popular in Japan and has become a cultural phenomenon since its release in 1969.
