Creepshow is a horror anthology series created by Greg Nicotero and based on the 1982 film of the same name by Stephen King and George A. Romero. The show premiered on the horror streaming service Shudder in 2019 and features six episodes, each with two separate stories. The show is introduced by a skeletal figure known as The Creep, who serves as a macabre host for each episode. The stories themselves are inspired by the horror comics of the 1950s, and each one has a distinctive pulp horror vibe. The first episode, titled "Gray Matter" and "The House of the Head," stars Adrienne Barbeau as a liquor store owner who finds herself at the mercy of a monstrous creature, and Cailey Fleming as a young girl whose dollhouse seems to be cursed. The second episode, "Bad Wolf Down" and "The Finger," features werewolves in World War II and a strange, disembodied digit with dangerous powers. The cast includes Jeffrey Combs, DJ Qualls, and Bruce Davison. The third episode, "All Hallows Eve" and "The Man in the Suitcase," revolves around two Halloween-themed stories. The first is about a group of pranksters who get more than they bargained for when they encounter a true Halloween spirit, while the second is about a man who finds himself in possession of a very unusual suitcase. The cast includes Ethan Embry, David Arquette, and Tricia Helfer. The fourth episode, "The Companion" and "Lydia Layne's Better Half," stars Hal Holbrook as a man who befriends a strange creature, and a story about a talk show host who will do anything for ratings. The cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Dane Rhodes, and Kid Cudi. The fifth episode, "Night of the Paw" and "Times is Tough in Musky Holler," involves a mystical paw that grants wishes with a deadly twist, and a dark tale of a small town under siege by a supernatural force. The cast includes Zachary Quinto and David Krumholtz. Finally, the sixth episode, "Skincrawlers" and "By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain," offers a story about a man who undergoes an experimental weight loss treatment with horrific side effects, and a tale of a young girl who discovers a mysterious creature by the lake. The cast includes Tobin Bell and Andrew Bachelor. Throughout its six episodes, Creepshow maintains a consistent tone of spooky fun, with plenty of gore, jump scares, and dark humor. The show is a loving tribute to the pulpy horror comics of the past, and modernizes those stories for a contemporary audience. With an impressive roster of talent both in front of and behind the camera, Creepshow is a must-watch for fans of horror and dark fantasy.
