Comic Book Men is a reality TV series that aired for seven seasons on AMC from 2012-2018. The show featured a group of comic book enthusiasts, who also happened to be longtime friends, as they shared their passion for comic books and pop culture with each other and their customers. The show was set in the Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey, which is owned by Kevin Smith, one of the show's stars. The show's main cast included Kevin Smith, Walt Flanagan, Michael Zapcic, Bryan Johnson, and Ming Chen. Smith is a filmmaker and writer who is best known for films such as Dogma, Chasing Amy, and Clerks. Flanagan is the manager of the Secret Stash and has been friends with Smith since childhood. Zapcic and Johnson are employees of the Secret Stash and also longtime friends of Smith and Flanagan. Ming Chen is a comic book enthusiast and podcast host who is a regular customer at the Secret Stash. Each episode of the show followed the main cast as they discussed and debated various comic book and pop culture topics, such as the best Batman storylines, the most valuable comic book issues, or the greatest villains in the Marvel Universe. They also shared stories about their personal experiences with comic books and pop culture, such as meeting celebrities at conventions or finding rare comic books in unexpected places. The show also featured celebrity guest appearances, such as actor Jason Mewes (who has appeared in many of Kevin Smith's films), comic book writer and artist Stan Lee, and actor and director Jon Favreau. These guests would often participate in the discussions and debates, or offer their own insights and experiences with comic books and pop culture. One of the highlights of each episode was the segment where customers would bring in their own comic book collections or memorabilia to the Secret Stash to sell or trade with the main cast. The cast members would evaluate the items and offer their opinions on their value or rarity, which often led to lively discussions and debates among the cast members and customers. Another recurring feature of the show was the "Stash and Burn" segment, where the cast members would gather in the Secret Stash after hours to watch and discuss a classic movie or TV show from the pop culture canon. These discussions often veered into humorous and irreverent territory, as the cast members would riff on the film or show and share their own personal stories and observations. Overall, Comic Book Men was a fun and entertaining celebration of comic books and pop culture, as well as the friendships and camaraderie that can grow out of shared passions. The show offered a unique perspective on the world of comic books, from the perspectives of both fans and professionals, and provided a forum for insightful and engaging discussions and debates.
