Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is a 2014 adventure-comedy film that serves as the third and final installment in the Night at the Museum film franchise. Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, the film stars Ben Stiller as Larry Daley, a former night guard at the American Museum of Natural History who was responsible for bringing the exhibits to life. The movie is a sequel to the 2006 film Night at the Museum and its 2009 follow-up Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. The movie begins with Larry Daley struggling to keep his job as a night security guard at the newly refurbished New York Natural History Museum. Despite Larry's efforts, the exhibits are malfunctioning and causing chaos. The cause of the malfunction is revealed to be the magical Egyptian tablet that brings the exhibits to life at night. The tablet's magic is slowly deteriorating, and the exhibits are starting to show signs of aging and wear and tear, and they become more and more erratic by the day. Larry decides to fly to London to seek the help of the tablet's creator, the Pharaoh Ahkmenrah's parents. He brings along with him the majority of the exhibits from New York, including the likes of Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Jedediah (Owen Wilson), and Octavius (Steve Coogan). As they arrive at the British Museum, they discover that the tablet is being kept in the basement of the building and that the exhibit it powers are deteriorating very quickly. In an attempt to save the tablet, Larry, Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek), and his mother Shepseheret (Anjali Jay) head down to the basement, only to be stopped by Lancelot (Dan Stevens), one of King Arthur's knights who has come to life along with the other exhibits. Lancelot has mistaken the tablet for the Holy Grail and takes it as his quest to retrieve the artifact. In the process, he unleashes chaos in the form of dinosaurs, rebellious Roman soldiers, and cowboys that threaten the survival of the entire museum. As the night progresses, Larry and his friends must work together to save the museum, the tablet, and the magical inhabitants of both the British and American Museums. Along the way, they run into a variety of famous historical figures, such as Sir Winston Churchill (Sir Ben Kingsley) and American pioneers Sacagawea (Mizuo Peck) and Tecumseh (Grant Goodman), who help them in their efforts to set things right before dawn breaks and the exhibits return to their lifeless state. The film features the late Robin Williams in his final on-screen performance as Theodore Roosevelt, and the emotional weight of his role is palpable as he offers sage advice to Larry and his companions. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan's hilarious back-and-forth banter as Jedediah and Octavius are some of the standout performances in the film. The movie is also bolstered by Dan Stevens' villainous turn as the manic Lancelot, who can seamlessly transition from hilarious to menacing in the space of a single scene. Overall, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is a rollicking adventure that offers plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments. It's a fitting conclusion to a beloved franchise that kept audiences entertained for over a decade, and it's a testament to the talent of the late Robin Williams who was a thread throughout the entire Night at the Museum series.
