Wieners, released in 2008, is a comedy movie that follows the journey of three friends who embark on a road trip across the country to reach a hot dog eating contest in California. The movie stars Kenan Thompson as Wyatt, Zachary Levi as Ben, and Fran Kranz as Joel, who are all going through different struggles in their lives. Wyatt is a failed karaoke singer, Ben is a failed inventor, and Joel is a failed writer. Together, they decide to undertake this adventure to win the grand prize money of $250,000, which they hope to use to fulfill their dreams. The movie opens with Wyatt losing a karaoke contest, which he had hoped would launch his music career. Meanwhile, Ben is fired from his job as a pet store clerk after his invention, a self-walking dog leash, malfunctions and causes chaos. To make matters worse, Joel's girlfriend breaks up with him, leaving him feeling lost and alone. As luck would have it, while drowning their sorrows over beers, the trio comes across a hot dog eating contest advertisement with a grand prize of $250,000. They decide to enter the contest, despite none of them being particularly fond of hot dogs. Without giving away too much of the plot, the trio sets off on their journey, encountering several obstacles and meeting a host of interesting characters along the way. They hitchhike, steal cars, and even get involved in a robbery, all in the hopes of getting to the contest in time. Along the way, they also get to know each other better and help each other overcome their personal struggles. Wyatt learns to believe in himself and his music again, Ben finally finds some success with his inventions, and Joel finds the inspiration he needs to become a successful writer. Adding to the humor of the movie are the mishaps and comedic timing of the trio, as they struggle to come up with creative ways to eat hot dogs and outperform their competitors. They even get into a rivalry with another contestant, played by Jenny McCarthy, who is determined to win the contest at all costs. Overall, Wieners is a light-hearted and funny movie that will leave viewers entertained and amused. The chemistry between the three leads is excellent, and their bickering and banter make for a fun ride. While it may not be a cinematic masterpiece, it certainly delivers on laughs and heartwarming moments.
