Here Comes The Boom is a 2012 American comedy movie directed by Frank Coraci and starring Kevin James, Salma Hayek, and Henry Winkler. The plot revolves around a high school biology teacher named Scott Voss (Kevin James) who, in an effort to raise funds for the schoolâs music program and save his colleagueâs job, decides to enter the world of mixed martial arts fighting. The movie starts with Scott Voss teaching his biology class, but itâs evident that he has lost his passion for teaching and no longer puts in any effort. His students are disengaged and donât respect him, except Manny (Bas Rutten), a former MMA fighter turned fellow teacher who motivates Scott to get his job back. Unfortunately, budget cuts threaten to cut the music program which not only means Scottâs colleague and best friend Marty (Henry Winkler) would lose his job but also sink the dreams of the students who rely on the program for future scholarships. Scott is desperate to help, but with his savings account low and his car being repossessed, he struggles to think of a way to raise funds until he is inspired by watching his former student, Niko (Nicholas R. Grava), who is also an MMA fighter competing on TV. With no prior experience in MMA fighting, Scott convinces Niko to train him for an upcoming fight. Initially, Scott loses his first few bouts and is discouragingly told by Niko that he is too old and out-of-shape to make it big, but he continues to train with Mannyâs help. Slowly but surely, Scott begins to gain confidence as he progresses through the ranks, gaining fan support, and soon earning enough money from winning fights to hopefully save the music program. Along the way, Scott faces difficult opponents, including the undefeated and heavily muscled fighter, Ken Dietrick (Krzysztof Soszynski), whose reputation for being unbeatable is a challenge Scott canât resist. With a newfound sense of purpose, he continues to work hard both in and out of the gym. However, there are obstacles thrown in his path, such as school bureaucracy and dishonest tactics from competitors, who try to make sure that Scott doesnât succeed. Meanwhile, Scottâs colleague Bella Flores (Salma Hayek), who works as a school nurse, has a secret crush on him, but he remains mostly oblivious until it becomes almost too late, and there is a race against time to save the music program. Throughout the movie, there is a continuous humor element, mainly through Kevin Jamesâ character Scott and his bumbling antics. The chemistry between Kevin James and Salma Hayek is evident and adds a bit of a romantic subplot to the movie. At the same time, Henry Winklerâs portrayal of Scottâs loyal and supportive colleague and friend, Marty, is humorous and heartwarming. Overall, Here Comes The Boom is a lighthearted and fun movie that is meant to entertain. The movie's main theme, the importance of never giving up on your dreams no matter what obstacles stand in your way, is inspiring and offers a great message to viewers. The movieâs soundtrack is filled with rock and roll hits, and the thrilling fight scenes keep the audience engaged, but the movie's unique aspect is its ability to merge the humor into the story's action without detracting from the storyâs central theme.
