Transformers is a Michael Bay film about a young boy named Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) who buys a car online only to discover that the yellow Camaro is actually a living robotic being called a Transformer. The transformers are sentient robotic lifeforms that have come to earth in search of something of great power they call the "Allspark", and are able to disguise themselves as familiar Earthly vehicles like Trucks, Airplanes, and Cars. Divided into two factions; the Autobots led by Optimus Prime who are trying to obtain the Allspark to protect mankind, and the Decepticons led by Megatron who intend to use the Allspark to destroy all who oppose them, the Transformers wage a great war against each other on Earth with both groups racing to obtain the Allspark before the other. This movie is full of giant robots fighting each other in grandiose battles that include Transformers being ripped apart, blown up, thrown around. Houses are demolished, skyscrapers' get all bent out of shape, and more than a few missiles are launched. Both groups challenged equally by one other, earth becomes locked in a struggle they never asked for and are powerless to stop. One of the most gripping things about Transformers is the suspense of the race between the two Transformer factions to find the Allspark. Transformers keeps you guessing and will most certainly keep you on the edge of your seat shortly after the opening credits. The movie is chock full of humor and comic relief as the reluctant hero, Sam, is constantly confused by the Autobots otherworldly mannerisms and is, himself, a bit of a loser that becomes involved in a planetary struggle with more at stake than high school exams. Sam is also caught up many times in trying to woo his love interest, Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox), in the midst of trying to keep alien robots from bringing the human race to extinction, which offers up more than a few laughs. The computer graphics special effects are just as high-quality as we've come to expect from Michael Bay, and they go along well with the present day sci-fi setting that the Autobots and Decepticons bring to the film. Many CG explosions are seen throughout the gratuitous amount of action in this movie that kept the folks in the theaters' mouths and eyes wide open for the full 144 minutes. Transformers is definitely a must-see for action movie fans, comedy lovers, and especially die-hard fans of the old 80's series and toy franchise. Transformers has a bold new modern look, and it'll keep you laughing, guessing, and on the edge of your seat!
