Norbit, a film by director Brian Robbins, is a comedy about an orphan who goes through some trying, yet humorous, lessons in life and love, all culminating with hilarious character development and a highly satisfying ending! Norbit Albert Rice, played by Eddie Murphy, is an Orphan who was abandoned in front of the Golden Wonton Orphanage and Cuisine, where he is taken in the following day. Norbit eventually forms a friendship with a girl whom he is paired with, Kate Thomas (Thandie Newton), and they even end up "marrying" as children in the Orphanage. One day however, Kate is adopted, leaving her and Norbit saddened, and Norbit left without a partner in the Orphanage... Later in life, Norbit is now in Elementary school, and is not very popular. Upon being bullied, Norbit is saved by a very controlling girl named Rasputia Latimore (also played by Murphy), who decides to make Norbit her new boyfriend. Eventually, Rasputia and Norbit are married, giving her more control than ever over Norbit. Rasputia eventually begins to severely mistreat Norbit, and even begins to cheat on him with her dance instructor, who uses her to help pay for his fitness tape. Norbit, angered at Rasputia, begins taking his frustration on her out on the puppets during a puppet show for the Orphans at the shelter! During this hilarity, he catches sight of his long lost love, Kate, for the first time in years. Norbit attempts to rekindle their relationship, but finds out she is engaged to a shady businessman, Deion Hughes (Cuba Gooding, Jr). Though heartbroken, eventually Kate realizes her love for Norbit days before she is set to marry, and becomes confused. In the meantime, Rasputia has since found out about their brewing love, and is not happy! Norbit uncovers a plan that Rasputia's brothers (Terry Crews, Lester Speight, and Clifton Powell) are attempting to buy the orphanage and turn it into a strip club, and Deion is helping. Kate finds out about the deal, but is told that Norbit is in on it too. Rasputia, angered by Norbit and Kate's reunion, locks Norbit in a basement, until Kate eventually finds him and confronts him about the accusations. Though innocent, Norbitt is mean to Kate to save her from Rasputia, and she leaves and goes to marry Deion. Norbit escapes and rushes to stop the wedding. He is chased by the Latimores, but even with their opposition, Norbit beats them to the church! Once there, Norbit puts into light the shady way in which Deion marries woman so that he can make money off of them and with the news out in the open, Deion runs!
