Infidel is an action thriller film released in 2019 that tells the story of an American journalist named Doug Rawlins (Jim Caviezel). He is a devout Christian who is kidnapped while attending a conference in Cairo, Egypt. The kidnappers believe he has information that could lead to the capture of a notorious terrorist leader named Imam Saleh (Sami Samir). Rawlins, who is married to his loving wife Liz (Claudia Karvan), is held captive and tortured by his captors. He is questioned about his association with Imam Saleh and his activities while in the Middle East. Rawlins tries to convince his captors that he has no connection with Imam Saleh since he is there only to cover the events and write about the political situation in the region. Meanwhile, Liz and Rawlins' friend and colleague, Hector (Hal Ozsan), try to seek help from the US embassy and other government agencies to help release Rawlins. At the same time, Rawlins' captors begin to post videos of his torture on the internet, causing outrage in the US and elsewhere. One of the main themes of the movie is religious differences and prejudices. Rawlins' captors are portrayed as radical Muslims who believe that all Christians are enemies of Islam. On the other hand, Rawlins believes that all Muslims are not terrorists and that true faith can foster peaceful coexistence between different communities. Hence, the movie attempts to highlight the importance of dialogue, understanding, and acceptance to promote harmony and unity across different religions and cultures. The film is an engaging and thrilling journey that takes the audience through different locations, including Cairo, Istanbul, and Tehran. The movie has a fast-paced narrative coupled with impressive cinematography, which gives the film an authentic feel. Jim Caviezel delivers an intense performance, which captures the urgency and helplessness of his character. Claudia Karvan's portrayal of Rawlins' wife is also compelling, as she balances her desperation to find her husband with her strength as a mother and wife. Infidel also deals with the theme of redemption. Rawlins is portrayed as a flawed character with a troubled past, but he is also shown as one who is willing to sacrifice his own safety for the sake of his faith and his values. The movie ends on a positive note, with Rawlins' faith being an integral part of his rescue and escape. Overall, Infidel is an entertaining and absorbing film that tackles themes beyond its action thriller genre. The movie's message of peace and harmony, along with its fast-paced storyline, makes it a worthwhile watch for anyone looking for a thought-provoking and thrilling experience. The movie is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and written by him and his wife Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh. It was produced under the banners of Four Eighteen Films and New Path Pictures.
