The Day After Tomorrow is an action adventure film with a science fiction edge to it. It depicts a world in which the effects of climate change are felt immediately and the United States, and other countries, undergo dramatic weather conditions. Dennis Quaid plays Jack Hall, a world renowned scientist. While on a mission in Antarctica, he is almost killed by a falling ice shelf. He believes this to be a sign of global warming so he attends a conference in India where he tries to present his findings. With the exception of one professor at the conference, none of the other world leaders or scientists believes Dr. Hall. Dr. Hall is soon proved right as within two weeks there begins to be dramatic weather conditions across the planet. There are three major hurricanes that start brewing instantly and in the United States, all airplanes are forcibly grounded because of severe turbulence. Dr. Hall’s son Sam is one of the many people who are being adversely affected by the weather. He and a few friends are in New York City for an academic event and they are quickly trapped in the city by the cataclysmic weather. They seek refuge in the New York City Public Library. Dr. Hall tries desperately to get to Sam and rescue him. At this point, the weather has become so bad that a huge blizzard has overtaken all of the northern part of the United States and everything is covered in snow. Dr. Hall manages to make it as far as Philadelphia in his vehicle but he can then go no further. He and his fellow scientists are forced to continue their journey on snowshoes. The President of The United States then forces an evacuation of the southern part of the United States by having people flee to Mexico. Mexico does not want the influx of refugees and there is a lot of violence on the border. During this the President is killed and the Vice President is shown in. Dr. Hall finally reaches New York and finds his son Sam still huddled in the library. He calls up for an helicopter that evacuates everybody. As the group leaves New York City, there are hundreds and hundreds of helicopters flying alongside them also looking for survivors. At this point, the entire city is buried in feet of snow and ice. The Day After Tomorrow was released in 2004. It is rated PG-13.
