Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is finally here, directed and written by James Gunn, who returns to the franchise after his controversial firing due to offensive tweets and his hasty re-hiring. The movie is the longest of all the Guardians' adventures, with a runtime of 149 minutes, and reunites the familiar cast with some new faces. Chris Pratt returns to the role of Peter Quill / Star-Lord, leading the team that includes Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, as well as Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel voicing Rocket Raccoon and Groot respectively. Zoe Saldaña returns as Gamora, a version from 2014 brought forwards during the events of Avengers: Endgame, without the long history and romance shared with Quill. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also brings back teased characters from previous outings, such as Elizabeth Debicki as the High Priestess Ayesha of the Sovereign, Sean Gunn as Ravager commander Kraglin, Sylvester Stallone as Ravager Stakar Ogord, and Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, who was teased in Volume 2. The movie introduces new characters, such as Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, an artificially created weapon who will cause trouble for the Guardians, and Chukwudi Iwuji as The High Evolutionary, a character linked to Rocket’s past. The cast also includes Superstore’s Nico Santos and The Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchoir. The official plot synopsis tells us that after purchasing Knowhere from The Collector, the Guardians attempt to make it a safe haven for alien refugees. However, following a brutal attack, Peter Quill must lead the Guardians on a mission to protect one of their members, which could lead to the team dissolving. Rocket’s past will also be explored in the movie, and a more emotional arc is expected for the character. The movie promises to be an exciting and emotional ride, with a mix of humor and action. Gunn’s signature style and love for the characters shine through in every scene. The cast delivers great performances, and the chemistry between them is as strong as ever. The visual effects and music are also outstanding, with a soundtrack that includes classic hits from the 70s and 80s, as well as some new additions. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy, providing closure to some of the character arcs while leaving some doors open for future stories. It’s a must-see for fans of the franchise and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general.
